Maundy Thursday
Holy Mass
Holy Mass is celebrated on Maundy Thursday, which occurs at 6 pm during Holy Week, the week prior to Easter. This service begins a Three-Day (Triduum) service.
Important Note about Holy Mass
To highlight the solemn nature of Holy Week and to keep the observance of Holy Communion simple, please note that the Lord’s blood will be distributed using only the Common Cup (chalice), which is in keeping with Gospel precedent and has longstanding practice in churches.
Other Rites and Ceremonies
The service includes many special rites and ceremomies which commemorate our Lord’s Passion on the same night when He both instituted the Lord’s Supper and was betrayed:
- Corporate Confession and Individual Absolution
- Imposition of Ashes
- Service of the Word
- Service of the Sacrament
